9 Best Ice Cream Shops in Atlanta

It’s almost summer in Atlanta. You are going to need ice cream. Here are our top picks for the best shops in town! Let us know what you think!

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

Where? Jeni’s has 5 locations around Atlanta, as well as being sold in your local grocery store (most likely).

Why? Duh. It’s Jeni’s. Need we say more?

Jake’s Ice Cream

Where? Jake’s is located at the Irwin Street Market.

Why? Jake’s Ice Cream has an amazing story that is only beaten by their ice cream flavors. According to their website, “Located at 676 Highland Avenue in the Old Fourth Ward, the Jake’s flagship store was created in a dilapidated turn-of-the-century storefront, across from three crack houses, a scrap metal yard and a body shop. We faced a roofless building with no windows, no plumbing, no wiring, no parking lot…more than just a fixer-upper. Never afraid of a good challenge, Jake had his reasons. All he had to do was turn to his right and look at the beautiful Atlanta skyline and to the left and see one of Atlanta’s most beautiful neighborhoods (Inman Park) and he knew he was planting Jake’s in the right spot. Jake predicted that this would be one of Atlanta’s next great neighborhoods. 16 years later, property values have skyrocketed and the neighborhood is booming.”

The Frosty Caboose

Where? Frosty Caboose got it’s name from it’s location on the Norfolk Southern Rail Line in Chamblee.

Why? All of their ingredients are locally sourced. “You will become spoiled. Our Ice Cream is the richest, the creamiest, and the most luxurious product available.”

Paolo’s Gelato Italiano

Where? Paolo’s is located in Virginia Highlands with a secondary location Charleston if you’re up for traveling!

Why? The first thing you see on their website is, “Would You Trust Some Guy Named Bob Making Your Gelato?” and I think that about sums it up.

King of Pops

Where? Kings of Pops’ is headquartered with carts all over the city.

Why? An Atlanta local, “King of Pops started with a couple thousand bucks, a used ice-cream pushcart, and a whole lot of luck. Our success is due to amazing community support which we’ve received since day one. We do our best to respond to that support with love, gratitude and some laughs.”

Morelli’s Gourmet Ice Cream

Where? Morelli’s is located in the Ormewood Plaza.

Why? A year after husband and wife Donald and Clarissa opened Morelli’s, it was named the 4th best ice cream shop in America! Don’t just take their word for it – even Conan O’Brien loves their ice cream!

Butter & Cream

Where? Butter & Cream has two locations – one in downtown Decatur and one off the Beltline!

Why? “Locally crafted in small batches from real cream and only the freshest ingredients, we make ice cream the way it should be made! While our offerings may have unique, modern twists, they are still reminiscent of classic ice cream flavors we have grown up with. All the ingredients infused into our ice cream such as brownies, cookies, and toffee have been made fresh on site as well.”

Honeysuckle Gelato

Where? Honeysuckle Gelato has two locations – one in Atlanta – as well as an experimental “test kitchen” at their production facility off of the Beltline.

Why? “Honeysuckle Gelato began in 2011 as the passion project of three friends with a simple mission to “Be Sweet.” Beginning as a food truck, Honeysuckle Gelato has always been as rich, creamy, and smooth as it is innovative. Serving up scoops, pints, gelato sandwiches, and milkshakes in flavors inspired by its Southern roots, Honeysuckle Gelato offers flavors such as Brown Butter Crunch, Lemon Raspberry Crumble, and Bourbon Pecan Praline!”

Ben & Jerry’s

Where? A classic – right in Inman Park.

Why? Locally owned, the Inman Park B&J’s is an awesome place to cool down.
